5 Textos en inglés y español, para ayudarte a pasar la materia
Aquí te dejamos unos textos en inglés que te educarán un poco acerca del vocabulario y la gramática en inglés. Leer es una muy buena forma de aprender un idioma. Así que practicaras mucho más de lo que crees.
Se aprende mucha gramática viendo cómo se emplean los tiempos verbales y otras estructuras, y al leer un texto o artículo en inglés casi siempre te encuentras con alguna expresión o phrasal verb interesante.
Por el momento te dejaremos 10 párrafos en inglés con su traducción, para los que estudian nivel básico. Y al final del artículo, también te dejaremos unas sugerencias acerca de que más puedes aprender dónde leer más.

1.-In English.
Had a great weekend. On Friday afternoon, I finished work at 5 PM. I went home and took a shower. Then I went to see a couple of my friends at a bar downtown.
We had a couple of beers and a nice talk. Tom told us about his new job, and Jim told us about his new girlfriend. After a while, we went to a restaurant and had pizza. I went to bed late that night, but I was very happy.
On Saturday morning I went running in the park. I ran 5 kilometers, and then came home. After that, I met my girlfriend for lunch. We went to a Thai restaurant near my house. I love Thai food!
I spent the evening with my girlfriend, watching TV on the sofa. The next day, I got up and caught the train to my parents’ town. I usually go to see my parents on Sundays, at least twice a month. My mom usually makes a roast, and we go for a walk in the park or in the country after lunch.
This weekend was a bit different, though. My parents took me out for a nice lunch, because it was my birthday. After lunch, we took a walk (as usual) and then I caught the train back to London. Now it’s Monday and I’m back at work, but I’ve got big plans for next weekend!

Tuve un gran fin de semana. El viernes por la tarde, terminé de trabajar a las 5 p. m. Fui a casa y me duché. Luego fui a ver a un par de amigos míos a un bar del centro. Tomamos un par de cervezas y una agradable charla.
Tom nos habló de su nuevo trabajo y Jim nos habló de su nueva novia. Después de un rato, fuimos a un restaurante y comimos pizza. Me acosté tarde esa noche, pero estaba muy feliz. El sábado por la mañana salí a correr al parque. Corrí 5 kilómetros y luego llegué a casa.
Después de eso, me encontré con mi novia para almorzar. Fuimos a un restaurante tailandés cerca de mi casa. ¡Me encanta la comida tailandesa! Pasé la noche con mi novia, viendo la televisión en el sofá.
Al día siguiente, me levanté y tomé el tren a la ciudad de mis padres. Suelo ir a ver a mis padres los domingos, al menos dos veces al mes. Mi mamá suele hacer un asado y salimos a caminar al parque o al campo después del almuerzo.

Shawn’s family is not very big. His mother and father live in a flat in London. His father works in an insurance company, and his mother is a nurse. She works for the National Health Service.
Shawn shares a flat with two friends and works in a restaurant. He’s a waiter. He has two sisters, Lucy and Millie, who live together in Southampton. Shawn has a girlfriend, and Lucy has a boyfriend, but Millie is single.
Shawn’s girlfriend’s name is Maria, and she’s Italian. She moved to the UK to study English a few years ago, and then stayed. She works in a café near Piccadilly Circus. Shawn’s in love with Maria, and he also really likes her dog. He loves going for long walks in the park with Maria and her dog.
Since they’ve been going out for over a year, Shawn’s thinking of asking Maria to move in with him. Rent prices are high in London, and they could save a lot of money by living together.

La familia de Shawn no es muy grande. Su madre y su padre viven en un piso en Londres. Su padre trabaja en una compañía de seguros y su madre es enfermera. Ella trabaja para el Servicio Nacional de Salud.
Shawn comparte piso con dos amigos y trabaja en un restaurante. Él es un mesero. Tiene dos hermanas, Lucy y Millie, que viven juntas en Southampton. Shawn tiene novia y Lucy tiene novio, pero Millie está soltera.
El nombre de la novia de Shawn es María y es italiana. Se mudó al Reino Unido para estudiar inglés hace unos años y luego se quedó. Trabaja en un café cerca de Piccadilly Circus. Maria, is that you? Another one of my amazing photos from around Madrid. On the weekends, Lucy and Millie come to London and the whole family has lunch together. Sometimes their aunts and uncles come, too.
Shawn’s grandparents are very old, and they live in a small cottage in Plymouth. They’re his mother’s parents. They’re retired, and spend most of their time gardening, walking and having tea with their friends. His father’s parents died years ago. They used to live in Brixton, in South London. Shawn doesn’t remember much about them.
Once a year, Shawn goes to spend some time with his grandparents in Plymouth. His grandmother makes excellent fruit pies. Sometimes, his sisters or his cousins come, too, and they all have a great time.
On holidays, Shawn goes to Italy and they stay with Maria’s parents in Rome. He loves Rome, and he loves Italian food, but he doesn’t like staying with his in-laws.
He doesn’t speak much Italian, and they don’t speak any English, so it’s a bit difficult to communicate. In the future, Shawn hopes to find time to learn more Italian.

Los abuelos de Shawn son muy mayores y viven en una pequeña cabaña en Plymouth. Son los padres de su madre. Bob lives in a small flat in London. In the mornings, he wakes up and has a shower. Then he makes breakfast. He usually has a typical English breakfast with eggs and bacon. After that, he goes to work.
He works in an office in the center of London. He sits in front of the computer all day and writes emails. He doesn’t like his job very much, but he likes earning money. At 12 o’clock he goes to lunch and has a sandwich. After lunch, he comes back to work and writes more emails. At 5 o’clock he leaves work.
He sometimes sees his girlfriend in the evenings. She lives on the opposite side of London, so he takes the Underground.
On weekends, he doesn’t have to work. He usually goes out for a few beers with his friends on Friday night. On Saturday he goes shopping. On Sunday he goes to his grandmother’s house for tea. On Monday he gets up early and goes back to work.

Sally left home when she was 18. She didn’t want to go to university, so she went to work in a book shop in London. One day, a customer came to the store. His name was Bill, and he was tall and handsome. He liked Sally, and asked her out.
They went out to dinner and had a nice time. Bill told Sally that he worked in a bank in the financial district. Sally liked Bill, too. After dinner, they kissed in front of her door. She smiled and said that she hoped she would see him again.
Nobody is sure how it happened, but Sally and Bill fell hopelessly in love, and ended up getting married. They moved into a small flat together, and paid incredibly high rent prices for a few years, until Sally announced that she was pregnant.
Bill asked for a loan from the bank so they could buy a nicer flat in a friendlier neighborhood outside London. Sally quit her job, and a few months later she had her baby. They named the baby Andrea. For a while, they were very happy.
