8 Recetas de comida en inglés

En este grupo de recetas hemos incluido algunos platillos muy típicos de la cocina norteamericana que forman parte del menú de cualquier familia. Al aprender estas recetas de comida en inglés, no solo podrás practicar tus habilidades culinarias, sino conocer un poco más acerca de la cultura americana con cada uno de estos platos.

1.- Mac and Cheese

El Mac and cheese o macarronis y queso es una de las comidas más populares en los Estados Unidos. Aquí la receta:

Ingredients

  • 1 (8 ounce) box elbow macaroni
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

Preparation

Step 1

Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook elbow macaroni in the boiling water, stirring occasionally until cooked through but firm to the bite, 8 minutes. Drain.

Step 2

Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat; stir in flour, salt, and pepper until smooth, about 5 minutes. Slowly pour milk into butter-flour mixture while continuously stirring until mixture is smooth and bubbling, about 5 minutes. Add Cheddar cheese to milk mixture and stir until cheese is melted, 2 to 4 minutes.

Step 3

Fold macaroni into cheese sauce until coated.

2.- Sloppy Joes

Los Sloppy Joes son un tipo de sándwich que a veces se prepara en un pan de tipo hamburguesa pero en el que la carne está molida y muy sazonada con una salsa única. Si buscas recetas de comida en inglés, este clásico americano no puede faltar.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup lentils
  • 2 onions, diced
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 large green bell pepper, diced
  • ¾ cup ketchup
  • ¾ cup barbeque sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic

Preparation

Step 1

Place lentils in a small pot and cover with 2 cups hot water. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer until lentils are tender, about 15 minutes. Drain.

Step 2

Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add onions; cook and stir until softened, 3 to 5 minutes. Add ground beef and green bell pepper; cook and stir until browned, about 8 minutes.

Step 3

Stir drained lentils, ketchup, barbeque sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and minced garlic into the skillet. Reduce heat to low and simmer until flavors combine and mixture thickens to desired consistency, 15 to 20 minutes.

3.- Chicken Stew

Este platillo no es más que un delicioso estofado de pollo. También es una receta básica de la comida norteamericana y por eso no puede faltar en esta lista.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp. butter
  • 2 large carrots, peeled and sliced into coins
  • 1 stalk celery, chopped
  • Kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp. all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 lb. boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 3 sprigs fresh thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 3/4 lb. baby potatoes, quartered
  • 3 c. low-sodium chicken broth
  • Freshly chopped parsley, for garnish

Preparation

Step 1

In a large pot over medium heat, melt butter. Add carrots and celery and season with salt and pepper. Cook, stirring often, until vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.

Step 2

Add flour and stir until vegetables are coated, then add chicken, thyme, bay leaf, potatoes, and broth. Season with salt and pepper. Bring mixture to a simmer and cook until the chicken is no longer pink and potatoes are tender, 15 minutes.

Step 3

Remove from heat and transfer chicken to a medium bowl. Using two forks, shred chicken into small pieces and return to pot.

Step 4

Garnish with parsley before serving.

4.- Baked Spaghetti

Aunque los espaguetis no se pueden considerar un platillo Americano, esta versión de pasta al horno nos pareció excelente para compartir en esta lista de recetas de comida en inglés.

Ingredients:

  • Cooking spray
  • 16 oz. spaghetti
  • 2 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp. Italian seasoning
  • 1 (28-oz.) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 c. basil, chopped
  • 1 c. shredded mozzarella
  • 1/4 c. freshly grated Parmesan
  • Chopped fresh parsley, for garnish

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350°. Grease a medium baking dish with cooking spray. Cook spaghetti according to package directions until al dente, drain, and set aside.

Step 2

Meanwhile, in a large skillet over medium heat, heat oil. Add onions and cook until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook until fragrant, 1 minute more. Add ground beef, season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning, and cook until no longer pink, about 8 minutes. Drain fat in a bowl lined with paper towels and return to pan. Pour in crushed tomatoes and basil and simmer until slightly reduced, about 10 minutes. Season with more salt and pepper to taste.

Step 3

Toss with spaghetti, then transfer to baking dish and top with mozzarella and Parmesan. Bake until cheese is melted and pasta is warmed through, about 20 minutes.

Step 4

Garnish with parsley and serve.

5.- Chili

La mezcla cultural en Estados Unidos en innegable y una muestra de esto es esta receta de chili. El chili es un plato mexicano pero sin duda los norteamericanos han llegado a amarlo.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 large white onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp. tomato paste
  • 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1 1/2 tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 tsp. ground cumin
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp. paprika
  • 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 (15-oz) can kidney beans, drained
  • 1 (28-oz) can crushed tomatoes
Toppings
  • Shredded cheddar
  • Sour cream
  • Thinly sliced green onions

Preparation

Step 1

In a large pot over medium heat, heat oil. Add onion and cook until soft, about 5 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute more, then add tomato paste, stirring to combine. Add ground beef and cook until no longer pink. Drain fat and return to heat.

Step 2

Add chili powder, cumin, oregano, paprika, cayenne (if using), and season generously with salt and pepper. Pour in kidney beans and crushed tomatoes and bring chili to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes. Season with more salt and pepper, if necessary.

Step 3

Ladle into bowls and top with cheddar, sour cream, and green onions.

6.- Chocolate chip cookies

Cuando se trata de postres y dulces, son muchas las recetas de comida en inglés que podemos encontrar así que decidimos incluir algunos deliciosos clásicos como las galletas con chistas de chocolate. Estas galletas no solo son deliciosas sino que son un clásico de los amantes de los postres y del chocolate.

Ingredients:

  • 120g butter, softened
  • 75g light brown sugar
  • 75g golden caster sugar
  • 1 medium egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 180g plain flour
  • ½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 150g dark chocolate, cut into chunks

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4 and line two baking sheets with parchment. Cream the butter and sugars together until very light and fluffy, then beat in the egg and vanilla. Once combined, stir in the flour, bicarb, chocolate and ¼ tsp salt.

Step 2

Scoop 10 large tbsps of the mixture onto the trays, leaving enough space between each to allow for spreading. Bake for 10-12 mins or until firm at the edges but still soft in the middle – they will harden a little as they cool. Leave to cool on the tray for a few mins before eating warm, or transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Will keep for three days in an airtight container.

7.- Apple pie

Este es otro de los postres clásicos que podemos encontrar y para que lo pruebes, aquí te va la receta para hacerlo completamente casero. En esta receta encontrarás las instrucciones para hacer no solo el delicioso relleno de manzanas sino también la masa perfecta que sirve como base.

  • Total: 1 ½ hours
  • Servings: 8

Ingredients:

Pie dough
  • 2 ½ cups flour (315 g)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ sticks butter, 1 1/2 sticks, cold, cubed
  • 8 tablespoons ice water, or as needed
Filling
  • 2 ½ lb granny smith apple (1 kg), cored, sliced, peeled
  • ¾ cup sugar (150 g)
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ lemon
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Preparation

Step 1. The dough

In a medium-sized bowl, add the flour and salt. Mix with fork until combined.
Add in cubed butter and break up into flour with a fork. Mixture will still have lumps about the size of small peas.
Gradually add the ice water and continue to mix until the dough starts to come together. You may not need all of the water, but if the dough is too dry then add more. The dough should not be very tacky or sticky.
Work the dough together with your hands and turn out onto a surface. Work into a ball and cover with cling wrap. Refrigerate.

Step 2. The filling

Peel the apples, then core and slice.
In a bowl, add the sliced apples, sugar, flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and juice from the lemon.
Mix until combined and all apples are coated. Refrigerate.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (200°C).

Step 3

On a floured surface, cut the pie dough in half and roll out both halves until round and about ⅛-inch (3 mm) thick.
Roll the dough around the rolling pin and unroll onto a pie dish making sure the dough reaches all edges. Trim extra if necessary.
Pour in apple filling mixture and pat down.
Roll the other half of the dough on top.

Trim the extra dough from the edges and pinch the edges to create a crimp. Make sure edges are sealed together.
Brush the pie with the beaten egg and sprinkle with the sugar.
Cut four slits in the top of the pie to create a vent.

Step 4

Bake pie for 50-60 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and no greyish or undercooked pastry remains.
Allow to cool completely before slicing.

8.- Chocolate cupcakes

Ingredients:

  • 300g dark chocolate , broken into chunks - don't use one with a high cocoa content
  • 200g self-raising flour
  • 200g light muscovado sugar , plus 3 tbsp extra
  • 6 tbsp cocoa
  • 150ml sunflower oil , plus a little extra for greasing
  • 284ml pot soured cream
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4 and line a 10-hole muffin tin with paper cases. Whizz the chocolate into small pieces in a food processor. In the largest mixing bowl you have, tip in the flour, sugar, cocoa, oil, 100ml soured cream, eggs, vanilla and 100ml water. Whisk everything together with electric beaters until smooth, then quickly stir in 100g of the whizzed-up chocolate bits. Divide between the 10 cases, then bake for 20 mins until a skewer inserted comes out clean (make sure you don’t poke it into a chocolate chip bit). Cool on a wire rack.

Step 2

To make the icing, put the remaining chocolate bits, soured cream and 3 tbsp sugar in a small saucepan. Heat gently, stirring, until the chocolate is melted and you have a smooth icing. Chill in the fridge until firm enough to swirl on top of the muffins, then tuck in.
