Los cuentos en Inglés infantiles para dormir son una excelente opción para poder ampliar el vocabulario de nuestros pequeños, buenas noches niños, es lo que por general dice mamá. Acaso te suena esta historia, o expresiones como no tengo sueño, puedes contarme un cuento!

1.- The fox and the grapes/ In English

One day, a fox became very hungry as he went to search for some food. He searched high and low, but couldn’t find something that he could eat. Finally, as his stomach rumbled, he stumbled upon a farmer’s wall.  At the top of the wall, he saw the biggest, juiciest grapes he’d ever seen. They had a rich, purple color, telling the fox they were ready to be eaten.

To reach the grapes, the fox had to jump high in the air. As he jumped, he opened his mouth to catch the grapes, but he missed.  The fox tried again but missed yet again.He tried a few more times but kept failing. Finally, the fox decided it was time to give up and go home.  While he walked away, he muttered, “I’m sure the grapes were sour anyway”.

Moral: if something is unattainable for you or you are unable to achieve it, you should not blame others or circumstances. It is good to recognize and accept that we all have many capacities, but also limitations.

La zorra y las uvas/ En español.

Un día, una zorra sintió mucha hambre mientras fue a buscar algo de comida. Buscó por todas partes, pero no pudo encontrar algo que pudiera comer. Finalmente, cuando su estómago retumbó, tropezó con la pared de un granjero.

En lo alto de la pared, vio las uvas más grandes y jugosas que jamás había visto. Tenían un rico color púrpura, diciéndole al zorro que estaban listas para ser comidas. Para alcanzar las uvas, la zorra tuvo que saltar mucho en el aire. Cuando saltó, abrió la boca para atrapar las uvas, pero falló. La zorra lo intentó de nuevo pero falló una vez más. Lo intentó un par de veces más pero siguió fallando.

Finalmente, la zorra decidió que era hora de rendirse e irse a casa. Mientras se alejaba, murmuró, «Estoy seguro de que las uvas estaban agrias de todos modos».

Moraleja: si algo es inalcanzable para ti o no te ves capaz de conseguirlo, no debes culpar a los demás o a las circunstancias. Es bueno reconocer y aceptar que todos tenemos muchas capacidades y limitaciones.

2.-The fox and the crow /In English

One morning as the fox was following his sharp nose through the wood in search of a bite to eat, he saw a crow on the limb of a tree overhead. This was by no means the first crow the fox had ever seen. What caught his attention this time and made him stop for a second look, was that the lucky crow held a bit of cheese in his beak.

-No need to search any farther, thought sly master fox. Here is a dainty bite for my breakfast. Up he trotted to the foot of the tree in which the crowwas sitting, and looking up admiringly, he cried:

-Good-morning, beautiful creature!

The crow, his head cocked on one side, watched the fox suspiciously. But he kept his beak tightly closed on the cheese and did not return his greeting.

-What a charming creature he is! said the fox. How his feathers shine! What a beautiful form and what splendid wings! Such a wonderful bird should have a very lovely voice, since everything else about him is so perfect. Could he sing just one song, I know I should hail him «King of Birds».

Listening to these flattering words, the crow forgot all his suspicion, and also his breakfast. He wanted very much to be called «King of Birds».

So he opened his beak wide to utter his loudest caw, and down fell the cheese straight into the fox’s open mouth.

-Thank you, said master fox sweetly, as he walked off with his piece of cheese.

El zorro y el cuervo / En Español.

Una mañana, un zorro recorría el bosque olfateando algo para comer, cuando vio un cuervo en la rama de un árbol. No era, por supuesto, el primer cuervo que el zorro había visto, pero lo que llamó la atención fue que este afortunado cuervo tenía un trozo de queso en su pico.

-No necesito seguir buscando, pensó el astuto zorro. Aquí tengo un delicioso desayuno. Corrió hasta el árbol en el que estaba sentado el cuervo, y mirando hacia arriba gritó:

-¡Buenos días, hermosa criatura!

-¡Qué criatura tan encantadora!- dijo el zorro. ¡Cómo brillan sus plumas! ¡Qué hermosa forma y qué espléndidas alas! Un pájaro tan maravilloso deberá tener una voz realmente bonita. Si pudiera cantar una sola canción, deberé llamarlo «el Rey de los pájaros».

Al escuchar estas palabras halagadoras, el cuervo olvidó, tanto de las sospechas que tenía sobre el zorro, como de su desayuno. Le hacía mucha ilusión que lo llamaran el «Rey de los pájaros». Abrió el pico de par en par para emitir su graznido más fuerte, y el queso cayó directamente en la boca abierta del zorro.

-Gracias, dijo el zorro dulcemente, mientras se alejaba con su trozo de queso.

Con este corto cuento tus hijos aprenderán que hay personas que te alagan y te cubren de alabanzas pero que lo hacen para conseguir algo a cambio. No es bueno fiarse de alguien sólo porque te elogie.

3.-The proud rose / In English.

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful rose plant in a garden. One rose flower on the plant was proud of its beauty. However, it was disappointed that it was growing next to an ugly cactus. Every day, the rose would insult the cactus about its looks, but the cactus stayed quiet.

All the other plants in the garden tried to stop the rose from bullying the cactus, but the rose was too swayed by its own beauty to listen to anyone. One summer, a well in the garden dried up and there was no water for the plants. The rose slowly began to wilt. The rose saw a sparrow dip its beak into the cactus for some water.

The rose then felt ashamed for having made fun of the cactus all this time. But because it was in need of water, it went to ask the cactus if it could have some water. The kind cactus agreed, and they both got through summer as friends.

Moral of the Story: Never judge someone by the way they look.

La rosa orgullosa/ En Español.

Érase una vez, una hermosa rosa que crecía en un jardín. Esta rosa estaba orgullosa de su belleza. Sin embargo, estaba decepcionada de que estuviera creciendo junto a un horrible cactus. Todos los días, la rosa insultaba al cactus por su apariencia, pero el cactus permanecía en silencio.

Todas las demás plantas del jardín intentaron evitar que la rosa intimidara al cactus, pero la rosa estaba demasiado influenciada por su propia belleza como para escuchar a nadie. 4.-The clever monkey/ En English.

Once upon a time, there was a clever monkey that lived on a beautiful island, in an apple tree.  One day, a crocodile swam to the island and he said, “I’m hungry”.

So the monkey threw a red apple to the crocodile. The crocodile munched and munched.  The next day, the crocodile came back. “Please, may I have two apples?”, he asked. He ate one and gave the other apple to his wife.  The crocodile went to see the monkey every day, to listen to his tales and eat his apples.  He wanted to be clever, just like the monkey. The crocodile’s wife had an idea. “Why don’t you eat his heart? Then you’ll be clever, just like him!”.

The next day, he said to the monkey, “Come to my house! We’ll have lunch together, to thank you for the apples”.  When the monkey arrived to the house, the crocodile snapped and said, “Monkey! I want to eat your heart, so I can be as clever as you!”.  The clever monkey thought quickly and said, “But… I haven’t got my heart here. It’s on the island, in the apple tree”.

They all went back to the island, “Wait here, and I will get my heart”, said the monkey.  The monkey quickly climbed the tree and sat at the top. “Oh, Crocodile. You are greedy. Of course you can’t have my heart. And now, you can’t have my apples!”.

The clever monkey laughed and laughed, giving the crocodile a valuable lesson. Because he was greedy, he was left without the friendship of the kind monkey, without his heart and without apples.

El mono inteligente/ En español.

5.-The golden touch / In English.

Once there lived a greedy man in a small town. He was very rich, and he loved gold and all things fancy. But he loved his daughter more than anything. One day, he chanced upon a fairy. The fairy’s hair was caught in a few tree branches. He helped her out, but as his greediness took over, he realised that he had an opportunity to become richer by asking for a wish in return (by helping her out).

The fairy granted him a wish. He said, “All that I touch should turn to gold”. And his wish was granted by the grateful fairy. The greedy man rushed home to tell his wife and daughter about his wish, all the while touching stones and pebbles and watching them convert into gold.

Once he got home, his daughter rushed to greet him. As soon as he bent down to scoop her up in his arms, she turned into a gold statue. He was devastated and started crying and trying to bring his daughter back to life. He realised his folly and spent the rest of his days searching for the fairy to take away his wish.

Moral of the Story: Greed will always lead to downfa.

El toque dorado / En Español.

Una vez vivía un hombre codicioso en una pequeña ciudad. Era muy rico, amaba el oro y todas las cosas lujosas. Pero amaba a su hija más que a nada. Un día, se encontró con un hada. El cabello del hada quedó atrapado en algunas ramas de árbol. Él la ayudó, y en ese momento se dio cuenta que tenía la oportunidad de enriquecerse pidiéndole un deseo a cambio.

El hada le concedió el deseo. El dijo, «Todo lo que toque debería convertirse en oro». Y su deseo fue concedido por el hada agradecida. El hombre codicioso corrió a casa para contarle a su esposa e hija sobre el deseo concedido. Cuando llegó a la casa, su hija se apresuró a saludarlo. 6.-A Frog and a Frying pan/ En English.

Fran the Frog was the best chef in the whole swamp, and all the toads and frogs of the region enjoyed coming to her very select restaurant. Her ‘Flies in spicy bug sauce’ and her ‘Caramelised dragon flies wings with honey of bee’ were the kind of delicacies that every self-respecting frog should try; and that made Fran feel truly proud.

One day, Toby came to her restaurant, ready for a nosh. Toby was a great big toad, and certainly wasn’t the brightest. When Fran’s fine creations were brought before him he complained, saying that that wasn’t food, and that what he really wanted was a botfly burger.

Fran came out of the kitchen to see what the problem was, and Toby told her that these dishes weren’t good enough. This made Fran so offended, and furious, that she went to the kitchen, came back with a frying pan, and whacked Toby squarely on the forehead. A slight scuffle ensued.

Even though Fran realised she should have controlled her temper, and she kept asking Toby to forgive her, the toad was so angry that he said he could only forgive her if she handed him the frying pan so he could hit her back. Everyone tried to calm Toby down, knowing full well that, given his strength, he could easily crack little Fran’s head open with that frying pan.

Toby would not accept an apology, and Fran felt awful for having bashed him, so she tried everything. She gave him a special cream for bruises, she poured him an exquisite puddlewater liqueur. Even better than that, she cooked him a… beautiful botfly burger! But Toby the Toad still insisted he would not be satisfied until he got to return the blow he had received.

It had reached the stage where he was almost getting out of control. Then a very old toad entered the restaurant, shuffling along with the help of two crutches.

– Wait Toby, – said the old toad -you can give her a whack after I’ve broken your leg. Remember that you are the reason why I have to walk with these crutches. Toby didn’t know what to say. He recognised the old toad. It was Reddit, his old teacher. When Toby was small, Reddit had saved him from a bunch of young hooligans. In the process, Reddit had lost a leg.

Toby remembered that it had all happened because he had been highly disobedient, but he had never given a thought to Reddit until now…Toby now realised he was being very unfair to Fran.

Everyone, including himself, made mistakes sometimes. And if we are to return blow for blow, wound for wound, all we are doing is prolonging the damage. So, even though his head still hurt and he thought Fran had made quite a remarkable mistake with that frying pan, seeing her feeling so sorry, and doing everything she could to put things right, Toby decided to forgive her.

Apology accepted, they spent the rest of the evening laughing at what had happened, and enjoying wonderful botfly burgers. And everyone heartily agreed that that was a rather better idea than getting into problems with pans.

El Sartenazo/ En español.

La rana Francesca era la mejor cocinera de todo el pantano, todos los sapos y ranas de la región disfrutaban su selecto restaurante. Sus ‘Moscas en salsa picante de insectos’ y sus ‘Alas de moscas de dragón caramelizadas con miel de abeja’ eran el tipo de manjares que toda rana debería probar; y eso hizo que Fran se sintiera realmente orgullosa.

Un día, Toby llegó al restaurante, lista para comer. Toby era un sapo grande pero no era el más brillante. Cuando trajeron las finas creaciones de Fran ante él, se quejó, diciendo que eso no era comida y que lo que realmente quería era una hamburguesa con mosca. Fran salió de la cocina para ver cuál era el problema, y ​​Toby le dijo que estos platos no eran lo suficientemente buenos.
